US President Donald Trump has pushed Ukraine to hold a new presidential election, saying Volodymyr Zelenskyy should broker a settlement with Russia to bring the conflict to a close.
Trump also held responsible Zelenskyy for increases in diesel prices in the United States, warning Kyiv to cease hitting Russian oil refineries he argues could deliver American fuel.
The remarks came on 10 October 2026, the same day Britain's Prime Minister held a separate phone call with Zelenskyy, according to the UK government.
